You Have An Opportunity, Now What?
1) The opportunity I have chosen is the adaptable car cupholder.
2) Drivers in the United States (and around the world) are spilling their drinks either on their car interior or on themselves as they drive because there's insufficient methods for holding their beverages in their motor vehicles.
The Who: Drivers around the world
The What: Unable to hold their drinks securely as they drive
The Why: Because their cupholder isn't built to hold a Big Gulp, tumbler, etc.
3) I believe that all drivers globally have a potential interest in this opportunity, although I do not believe this problem affects all drivers globally. That is, I believe anyone who drives could have a problem holding their drink. I believe this because most all cupholders are designed very similarly, and the variations in cup design have been growing and will continue to grow as time goes on. However, I do not think everyone drives with a drink.
4) Questions for interviews:
a) What percent of Americans would you estimate drives with a drink in their car at least twice a year?
b) What percent of car drivers globally would you estimate drives with a drink in their car at least twice a year?
c) When you drive with a drink, do you ever worry about it spilling?
d) When your drink has spilled, do you ever think about how you could've prevented it from happening?
e) Has your cupholder ever been the reason you choose not to bring a drink with you in the car?
I found that all of the people I interviewed answered around what I had expected. All said 90% of drivers or higher drives with a drink in their car at least twice a year. Three said they worried about their drinks spilling, while two said no. When I asked d), all five said the same thing: yes. For e) I got mixed reviews. Most said no, but one said that the fear of spilling caused him to avoid bringing the drink altogether: a clear sign of lack of faith in his cupholder (as I suspected).
5) The only thing I learned from this round of interviews that I did not already know or assume was that more people than I expected did not worry about spilling their drinks when they brought them in the car.
5) The only thing I learned from this round of interviews that I did not already know or assume was that more people than I expected did not worry about spilling their drinks when they brought them in the car.
Overall I like your idea, you made compelling points as to why this opportunity exists. I do like the range of questions you asked in the interviews. I do however wish you went into more detail about the interviews, instead of just summarizing what the 5 people you interviewed said. Also maybe add bolding to make important points pop out more. Overall Great Job.
