Idea Napkin No. 1

1) My name is Andrew Lanza and i'm a fourth year student at UF studying Business Administration w/ a specialization in pre-law & Spanish. I'm a loquacious person with a good circle of friends who like to go outdoors, watch football, and most importantly, spend time together. Because of this lifestyle, I spend much of my time on the go, and I always like to be hydrated. With a tumbler in hand anywhere I go, I'm bound to spill, which tends to happen to me 2-4 times a week on average (clumsy). My aspirations for my car cupholder business are to prevent spillage in the life of others like myself, especially in one's car. I believe in this concept because I know it would make a difference in my life if it existed, and I hope that it would help others from being distracted drivers as well if it were to come to fruition. The cupholder would stop me from spilling in the car, in addition to preventing me from paying attention to anything but the road while I drive. It would be a perfect addition to my car, and could actually save the lives of some users!

2) The product I am offering to customers is an adaptable cupholder that adjusts to fit your beverage while also being weighed down securely in your cupholder to make car spillage a thing of the past. This will fix spillage because the cups won't be able to tip when you turn too fast or what have you.

3) This product will be marketed towards all drivers, as driving is what all the prototypical customers have in common. More specifically, it could be marketed towards commuters. Anyone who gets on the road every day to travel to and from somewhere would be an ideal candidate for this product's services.

4) The customers this product will be marketed to will want to purchase it because, like me, they are sick and tired of spilling their beverages in their car. From boiling hot coffee to ice cold gatorade, nothing is much worse than cleaning sticky dried drinks from your seats or in between the seats. Better yet, these potential consumers will want to buy this product to prevent themselves from spilling on themselves. The only thing worse than spilling on your car interior is spilling on yourself too, and showing up to work with a coffee stain on your white oxford shirt or blouse.

5) The product I offer is unique because of two specific features. Firstly, the any-cup adjustable grip on the cupholder itself. This is the durable, strong part of the product that holds your drink firmly so that you cannot remove it from the device unless you release the grips. The second unique part of the product is the seven-pound weight at the bottom of the cupholder designed to allow no tipping whatsoever when turning or making quick maneuvers in your vehicle.

I believe that the product I have come up with is not only unique and new, but incredibly useful. There is absolutely no way that nobody else is afflicted with huge car spilling problems like myself. Even though I drive an eleven-year-old car, new cars have the same problem as mine: a universally same sized cupholder. My product takes advantage of the universal cupholder size by creating an extension of it that fits any drink you could want, and making sure it makes it all the way to your destination, unspilled.

  1. I find your proposal very interesting and it is evident that this product would be beneficial for car users. Therefore, your target market is expansive which is an added benefit to your idea. I also like how you talked about adding a weight to the cup so that it wouldn't spill, but I wonder if making it seven pounds would be too heavy for some individuals to carry around.

  2. Good job explaining who you are, what your offering and who your customers are. I like your product idea there are a lot of cup holders that are way to big to hold smaller cups or bottles and having an adjustable cup holder makes sense. I agree with you that old and new cars have this problem. Overall Great job.

  3. I believe that you did a great job on this post. You successfully and clearly stated your product and how it will help the consumer, identified what the prototypical customers will have in common with each other, the reason your customer is expected to buy your product, and you stated why your product was unique. To be honest, originally I did not see how your product was unique, but you were able to clear that up in the fifth part of your explanation.
